16 CFR 1610 for Flammability of Clothing Textiles to US

2016-03-31

The US Federal flammability standard for general wearing apparel (16 CFR 1610) applies to all apparel textiles. It is particularly important for raised-fiber surface textiles made from cellulosic fibers, as they may be highly susceptible to burning without treatment of flame retardant. Held on a special platform with 45o inclination, specimen with plain or raised surface shall be cut and inserted in a frame for 1-second burning. The time recorded for the flame to travel up a distance of 127mm (5 inches) on the fabric is therefore used for classification.
