Safety Testing of Infant Bouncer Seats for the US Market

2019-05-13

The ASTM F2167–17 is an updated version of safety regulations issued by American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). It addresses the safety concern on popular items under the "infant bouncer seats" category, which is defined as:

“a freestanding product intended to support an occupant in a reclined position to facilitate bouncing by the occupant, with the aid of a caregiver or by other means. Intended occupants are infants who have not developed the ability to sit up unassisted (approximately 0 to 6 months of age).”

Meanwhile, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is proposing a new standard, 16 CFR 1229 – safety standard for infant bouncer seats, which is based on the existing ASTM F2167-15 standard with the warning signs modified.
